The First Annual Memorial Day Great Eight Challenge will be run by teams of 8 or more.  The overall winner will be established on a points system much like a track meet.  The winner of each event will receive 10 points, second place 8 points, third place 6 points etc.  Teams are encouraged to bring all of their own equipment; limited equipment will be available.

The event will begin at 7:00 am with the 2-mile run.  There will be a team meeting at 8:00 am at the Plainsman Grill where rules will be read and clarifications made.  Softball, volleyball and disc golf will begin promptly at 9:00.  Following the completion of the morning events, teams will return back to the Plainsman Grill for lunch.  Afternoon events will begin at 1:00.  Events will take place on 30-minute rotations.

Events will include:

  • Basketball: Teams will compete in a dribble weave relay and a “Hot Shot” contest. The 8 participants in this event will be split into groups of 4 for the dribble weave.  Cumulative time will be used for overall score.  “Hot Shot” will take place in 1 minute intervals per person.  Spots will be marked on the court with a point value.  No more than 3 layups may be used.
  • Volleyball: Normal 4’s rules will apply. Teams will play rally scoring, best of 3 games played to 10.  Tie breaker will be lowest total points allowed, followed by points scored.
  • 2 Mile Run/Walk: 2 members of each team will participate; combined time of team members will be used. 60-minute time limit.
  • Golf: There will be a driving range station and a putting station. Targets will be placed on the driving range and points will be awarded in a similar fashion of darts.  Putting will be scored on a distance-based score.
  • Horseshoes: Standard horse shoe rules will apply. Combined score will be used.
  • Corn hole: Teams will play against each other rotating at 15 minutes.  Total combined score.
  • Softball: Up to 10 players per team. 1 pitch will be given with a courtesy foul.  Teams will pitch to themselves.  The pitcher will not play defense.
  • Disc Golf: Teams will play in 2 groups of 4 alternating throws.  Combined scores will be used for score.
